Our preference is for all our breeding dogs to have a family and home of their own and for this reason we
keep a limited number of dogs at our own property and utilize Care (permanent foster) homes as much as
possible.

Guardians homes can be a great opportunity for both the dog and the participating family.  The guardian gets a
great dog at greatly reduced price and the puppy gets a family of its very own. After the contract is completed
(max of 3-4 litters) then we have the dog spayed, reimburse the initial purchase price and it belongs to the
Guardian family forever.  Males pups sometimes need Care homes too and in that case we keep them on
contract available for stud services for a period of six years, after which they get neutered and ownership
turned over to the Care family.

All testing and breeding related expenses are paid for by us , and regular dog ownership expenses like food and
training classes and paid for by the Care family.

When the puppy reaches adulthood and passes all of her testing we arrange for her to be bred to a suitable
stud. About a week before she is due to have her puppies she comes to stay with us so we can keep a close
eye on her and be there to assist with the birthing process.  She will stay with us for about 7 weeks and then
go home to her family.

Our care homes are very carefully chosen based on this criteria:

  • they live within reasonable driving/ferry distance of our home
  • they are willing to sign a legal document  agreeing to keep their puppy on a leash or in a fenced area at
    all times during all heat cycles ( 2x a year for 2 weeks)
  • they are able to take it to the vet for health testing/breeding procedures (at our expense) when requested,
    sometimes with as little as 24 hours notice
  • they must  be a  responsible pet owner with a references that can be verified
  • we do not accept renters as guardian homes, even with permission from their landlord
  • they must be comfortable with the idea of parting from their pet for 7 weeks a year to have puppies (you
    can visit)
